ICSI is the most advanced form of ART, where sperm requirement comes down to numbers.
Frozen semen sample is thawed one hour before ICSI. Sperm wash-sperm preparation process is the same as of fresh semen sample. Prepared sperm are used to fertilize the eggs in vitro – in IVF lab with a specialized equipment and technique called ICSI.
Semen freezing for ICSI is useful when:
- Husband cannot give semen on demand – when instructed to give semen.
- Absentee husband
- When husband cannot remain present at the time of ICSI
- Due to job condition
- Staying abroad or Out of station, etc.
When semen parameters are variable, Man can freeze his semen. When the sample is good, it ensures good quality sperm at the time of ICSI and protects him from unexpected poor semen parameters.
Important It is highly recommended that one semen sample is frozen before the start of an ICSI cycle to ensure that the sperm will be available when needed and treatment cycle would be completed safely and successfully.
